[MO3.00] Basic Mount Technique -(Daki-age or High Lift)

Due to recent popularity of the guarding position many lightly skilled fighters have adopted it as part to their arsenal. The guard is not always a good position to be in. It is a last resort option in combat. It leaves you too vulnerable. I have personally only found myself on the ground in a couple of altercations. In a confrontation if your opponent places you in the guard grab around their legs and grasp their obi (belt) Lit them off the ground and slam their head into the ground. If you’re on concrete, you can split their scalp.

Mount:

Student-1: (Uke) Back to the tatami in the guarding position.

Student-2: (Tori) In student-1’s guard.

Execution:
  • (Tori) Student-2 while on the mat reaches around and under uke’s legs and grasps uke’s belt.
  • (Tori) Student-2 lifts the opponent shoulder high and drops him/her to the mat landing on their back.
  • (Uke) If you’re lifted, tuck your chin before impact.

Note: You can also lift uke by the lapels. In practice only lift uke slightly off the tatami. In competition it may be necessary to lift him/her higher.

Note: In a life preservation situation, you can swing the opponent’s head into stationary objects or lift them high and direct their head towards the ground.

Note: (Tori) Student-2 will need to slam student-1 (uke) into the tatami several times before being able to cross student -1’s hip line. You want their legs to part before crossing the hip line.

Practice Options:
  1. (Tori) After the drop, clear the hipline and utilize strikes, chokes, and locks.
  2. (Uke) Use your legs, feet, and hip shifting to prevent tori from lifting you off the tatami.
