[MO3.01] Basic Mount Technique -(Passing the Guard Pressing and Pinning)
This is the oldest form of passing the guard. It was developed in Kano Jigoro sensei’ s time. This ne-waza (mat or ground technique) technique was taught to beginning judoka and students of jujitsu. It is a good foundational understanding of how one passes the opponent’s defensive position.
Mount:
Student-1: (Uke) Back to the tatami in the guarding position.
Student-2: (Tori) In student-1’s guard.
Execution:
- (Tori) Press the points of your elbows into uke’s inner thighs.
- (Tori) Once there is an opening pin uke’s leg with your knee.
- (Tori) Slowly pull your other knee inside uke’s groin and quickly pass the guard into a top mount above the hipline.
Note: Drive a knee strike into the groin and drop the knee onto the testacies to facilitate passing the guard. (not in practice)
Practice Options:
- (Tori) Practice striking from this position.
- (Tori) Past the guard and to the top-mount and execute strikes, chokes, and locks.
- (Uke) Prevent tori form passing the guard.
- (Uke) Shift hips to get into a better position.
- (Uke) Practice submissions from the bottom and the side.
