Purpose of Mat Technique Fundamental #17:

This fundamental teaches the student that if one throw fails you can turn failure of one throw into the success of the second. It also works Uke’s hip checking technique. Another purpose of this fundamental is to teach the student to quickly move over the hipline, after the throw, before Uke can place them in the guarding position.

Note: This is a good opportunity to discuss the many ways to move from the guarding position to the above the hipline position.
