Purpose of Technique Fundamental #8
In series eight the student is introduced to a common jujitsu throw. Commonly an attacker will grab you with both hands. This is to control your movement. It could be to set-up a throw or a strike. In this fundamental the student utilizes a fishtail escape and learns how to get behind his/her attacker.
Judo and jujitsu players commonly use your uniform to throw you. The immediate execution of the up/down fishtail escape changes their plan. To throw you utilizing your clothing the jujitsu practitioner will push up on one shoulder and pull down on one arm in an effort to break your balance. Once your weigh is on one leg making the hip throw is a simple endeavor. The Fishtail Escape disrupts this flow. The loosening-up technique is a kick. This too is part of the distract and attack philosophy. If the adversary is protecting his/her groin they’re not expecting the duck-under maneuver.
In this fundamental the student will learn the footwork necessary to get behind his/her attacker and take the down. The valley drop throw will place you in range three where your grappling skills will be needed. It is advised in a real confrontation to direct the back of the attacker’s head to the ground. This impact may end the altercation.
