Part-1 Attacker Grabs Labels:

Part-2 Defender: Lapel Choke and Sweep

  • One hand goes deep inside the attacker’s lapel. (Choke)
  • The other arm traps the attacker’s arm on the side of the throw.
  • Push your forearm into the front of the attacker’s throat.

Theory: The attacker will try to pull your wrists away from the choke. While his/her focus is on their throat they can easily be thrown with a foot sweep.

  • Push with the forearm and rotate the attacker’s shoulders.

Note: You must get his/her weight on one leg.

  • Place your foot on his/her knees and wheel throw or sweep the attacker.

Note: If you follow that adversary to the mat choke-out the opponent.

Part-3 Attacker: Attacker Counters the Throw (Sweep)

Part-4 Defender: Reverse Direction and Throw the Attacker

Note: This is necessary if the attacker does not go down on the leg reap. The opponent’s natural response to your first attempted throw, is to push back against your initial throwing technique, so use his/her momentum and throw the adversary using their momentum.

  • Pivot your hips to the left and reverse the direction.
  • Turn your hand and maintain the tie off to his/her lapels.
  • Place your right foot to side of the attacker’s bent knee and thrust your right leg forward and reap the other leg.
  • Drive the right shoulder and forearm into the attacker and force him/her to the ground.
  • When the attacker hits the ground, place the attacker in a submission lock.
