[T2.04] Ouchi-gari: Variation-2 (MIR with Palm Strike to Chin)

[T2.04] Ouchi-gari: Variation-2 (MIR with Palm Strike to Chin)

Translation: (O) Major (Uchi) Inner (Gari) Reaping

The purpose of this series is to bring, the student, an understanding of how Atemi-waza and Nage-waza can be used together in a very direct manner. This philosophy is explored greater within the fundamentals where the technique is taken through all ranges of personal combat.

Warning: Do not attempt these techniques without a qualified AOKK instructor’s supervision.

AOKK Category:
  • Reaps
Opening Technique:

The opponent reaches or punches. Palm strike inside their blow.

 Execution:
  • Drive a right palm-heel strike into the opponent’s chin to break his/her balance backwards.
  • Slip your left lead leg between the opponent’s legs and place your foot behind his/her ankle of shin.
  • Palm strike with your left hand.
  • Push the opponent backwards until they lift the lead leg and reap backwards with your heel.

Note: With the second blow, push the opponent backwards as you reap his/her leg. I used this once in a real confrontation, so I know its’ potential. My opponent tripped over the foot I had placed behind his leg as he retreated from my attack, so it was unnecessary to reap his leg backwards. The adversary was larger than me, so I crossed his hip line, after he dropped to the floor, and rained down punches until he was rendered unable to harm me. This was not one of my better moments.

Grips:
  1. Strikes take the place of grips.

Note: It takes two points to maintain your balance. Standing on both feet are two points, or one foot and being tied-off to something or someone is also two points of balance. If that balance is dependent upon you, then you can throw uke in any direction using their support leg as a pivot point.

Warning: Never go to the ground if there are multiple opponents.

Note: If you choose the mount, follow immediately with open hand strikes, closed hand strikes, and elbow strikes. In sport you may choose to apply a choke or lock the opponent to gain a submission.
