MO3.9 Basic Mount Technique- [Hip Shift Escape #2]:
If you’re on the tatami (mat), you can be struck with hands and knees, choked, or leg locked. The most fluid position is the standing position, while the least fluid position is on your back on the ground. This is an alternate method of escaping the guard. It has a low level of success but is outside the box thinking. This is a more exotic example, of the many philosophies of escaping or slipping the guarding position.
Mount:
Student-1: (Tori) Back to the tatami in the guarding position.
Student- 2: (Uke) In student-1’s guard.
Execution:
- (Tori) If uke pulls away from you and creates space, tie-off to him/her and allow them to pull you off the tatami.
- (Tori) You can also reach up and grab around uke’s neck.
- (Tori) This causes them to expend energy and sets up your escape.
- (Tori) Post the arm on the side that you wish to roll behind you when uke stops lifting, so you cannot be pressed down again.
- (Tori) Twist your torso and trap uke’s arm, with your other arm, in the direction you wish to roll, so he cannot post and prevent your movement.
- (Tori) Hook uke’s leg on the side you wish to roll him /her.
- (Tori) Push with your other leg and pull simultaneously with your hooking arm and hooking leg while using your posted arm as a pivot point.
Note: Do not interlock you fingers.
Practice Options:
- (Tori) Begin striking and working for a submission once you’re in the top-mount.
- (Tori) If uke prevents you from rolling into the top-mount stand-up and continue the fight from that position.
Note: The student should practice both returning to the sand and rolling into the top mount.
- (Uke) Do not let tori tie up your arms.
- (Uke) Continue to post and strike with your free hand and develop a submission.
