[KS1.0] Basic Mount Technique-[Shin Kick]
[KS1.0] Basic Mount Technique-[Shin Kick]
Students fed a constant diet of grappling will occasionally simply try to pull you into the guard. The throws of range-two personal combat have been ignored, in their training, because they believe that when they’re on the ground, they’re at an advantage and they may be true. One of the guidelines of person combat, in the AOKK, is to take your opponent out of their comfort zone. If their desire is to be on the ground, keep your feet. Never punch with a boxer nor kick with a kicker, or grapple with a grappler. Choose your range of combat and keep the opposition out of their comfort zone.
Mount:
Student-1: (Uke) Back to the tatami.
Student-2: (Tori) Standing above student-1.
Execution:
- (Tori) Keeps their feet and shin kicks the sides of the uke’s knees, calves, and thighs continuously.
Note: Kicking the opponent’s hip socket, with the ball of the foot, can limit the adversary’s movement.
Note: Tori must not let the uke grasp their leg or they can take you to the ground.
- (Tori) Kick their legs until they cannot stand up.
Note: Your main target is uke’s leg with the bent knee.
- (Tori) Movement is student-2’s friend. Student-2’s footwork must be light and quick. In and out
- (Uke) student-1 pivots on their buttocks and either takes (Tori) student -2 down or regains their footing.
Practice Options:
- (Tori)(Uke)Pad each student and have one kick while the other tries to grab a leg or get back to their feet.
- (Tori) The object of the kicker is to keep the other student on the tatami.
- (Uke) The object of student-1 is to regain their footing or take tori down to the mat.
Note: I once saw a grappler try and fail to pull their opponent into the guard, so he rooted around on his buttocks chasing the other fighter like a crab instead of standing up. Therefore, it is imperative that a student must be comfortable in all three ranges of fighting.
