[KS9.0] Basic Mount Technique-[Circular Punches]

[KS9.0] Basic Mount Technique-[Circular Punches]

Warning: Striking with the fist can lead to hand injury.

When the opponent places you in the guard, striking is not eliminated from the fight. Never stop striking the opponent. Straight punches will not have the power you would have if you were standing and able to get good hip rotation, shoulder rotation, and weight transfer. You need to generate power through shoulder rotation, but the downside is that the punch is made with arm strength only.

Note: The student must know how to make a proper fist. This should have happened in their karate/kickboxing training or they could suffer a boxer’s fracture.

Warning: Never, purposely follow an attacker to the ground.

Execution:

  • Student is in the guard or in top or full mount.
  • Rotate the shoulders right and left striking the opponent’s head.

Note: Do not let the grappler grab your arm. However, you may want to tie-up one of the opponent’s arms while you punch with the other.

Note: This strike can be done with either hand. The target is the head.

Note: Try to cut the eyebrow and get blood flowing. This is a distraction to the opponent and, it can limit their vision.

Target Area:
  • Eyebrow area.
  • Temple
  • Nose
  • Jaw

Note:  Alternate the circular strikes right and left, combined with knees strikes, headbutts, and elbow strikes.
