[T3.07] Kouchi-gake: (Minor-Inner-Hook)
[T3.07] Kouchi-gake: (Minor-Inner-Hooking
Translation: (Ko) Minor (uchi) inner (gake) hooking
To Sweep uke’s front leg you need him/her to lift the lead leg or step through. This is a timing technique, but when it works it can cause your opponent to lose balance and fall on their own when they’re overextended.
Warning: Do not attempt these techniques without a qualified AOKK instructor’s supervision.
Opening Technique:
This can be a counter to Kouichi-gari or minor inner reap. When uke lifts their foot for the sweep, pivot and hook their foot with the sole of your foot. Make uke do the splits. This is also known as a lead leg or foot sweep. The key is to make them step or lift the lead foot off the ground.
Execution:
- Push uke back and when he/she pushes forward pull them towards your body, so they lift their front foot to prevent falling.
- Sweep behind uke’s heel when he/she lifts their lead foot.
- Pivot or rotate to make the sweep.
Note: You will be pulling them forward with the sole of your foot.
- Once uke is stretched out twist his/her upper-body and throw them sideways to the tatami (mat).
Grips:
- Wrist and lapel.
- No grip.
Warning: Never go to the ground if there are multiple opponents.
Note: Follow this technique with an arm-bar, mount above the hips, or simply walk away. If you choose the mount, follow immediately with open hand strikes, closed hand strikes, knee strikes, head butts, and elbow strikes. In sport you may choose to apply a choke or lock the opponent to gain a submission.
