[T4.01] Morote-gari: Variation-2 (Double Leg Takedown from Side/Back)
[T4.01] Morote-gari: Variation-2 (Double Leg Takedown from Side/Back)
Translation: (Morote) Both-hands, (gari) reap: Double Leg Takedown
This technique is simply a repositioning of the location where pressure is applied for the takedown. In this variation you swing your legs around while squeezing uke’s knees together. This motion makes it difficult for the opponent to administer the guillotine choke. In traditional Morote-gari you lift at the knees and push backwards. In this version you hit uke to the side and behind the knee joint. This causes the opponent to fall backwards and sideways.
Warning: Do not attempt these techniques without a qualified AOKK instructor’s supervision.
AOKK Category:
- Takedowns
Opening Technique:
First you can simply shoot for the technique, but a good one-two combination to the head first will take uke’s mind off your attempted throw.
Execution:
- Hook uke’s outside ankle with your (RH).
- Swing your body to the side and wrap your other arm around uke’s knees while pulling uke’s ankles together.
- Lastly, drive your weight forwards and pull backwards on uke’s legs. Place your shoulder in the bend of uke’s knees.
Warning: Do not place your head on either side of uke’s thighs. If you do, expect to be placed in a guillotine choke. Keep your head up looking at the opponent. Do not look at the ground. This head positioning makes application of the guillotine choke more difficult.
Grips:
- Wrap two arms around and under uke’s knees. Do not let you head move to the side of uke’s legs or you can be placed in a guillotine choke.
Warning: Never go to the ground if there are multiple opponents.
Note: If you choose the mount, follow immediately with open hand strikes, closed hand strikes, knee strikes, head butts, and elbow strikes. In sport you may choose to apply a choke or lock the opponent to gain a submission
