[T8.03] Tsurikomi-goshi: (Lifting and Pulling Hip Throw)

[T8.03] Tsurikomi-goshi: (Lifting and Pulling Hip Throw)

Translation: (Tsurikomi) Lifting and Pulling, (goshi) hip

AOKK Category:
  • Hip Throws

Again, all fights begin with striking and kicking, but this throw must be made in grappling range. In this grange there will be a lot of pushing and shoving. The opponent must be close enough that you can grasp their clothing and their clothing must be substantial enough to be used to throw them.

Important: This is a uniform throw and is not a preferred AOKK technique. You cannot be certain that an adversary will be wearing clothing strong enough to support this throw.  It is only referenced because it is a technique used in other systems.

Warning: Do not attempt these techniques without a qualified AOKK instructor’s supervision.

Opening Technique:

This throw is almost exclusively made from the clinch.

Execution:
  • Grasp uke by both lapels or a collar and a lapel.
  • Pull uke so his/her weight is on their right leg (LH) and push the lapel upwards (RH).
  • Turn 180° squat and drive your hips into uke below his/her waist.

Note: The shorter the opponent the lower you must squat because you must be lower than their hip line.

  • Twist the material you are gripping and lift and pull uke onto your back.
  • Drop your shoulder and throw uke to the tatami (mat).

Note: Your feet should be inside uke’s stance. To get uke to widen their stance you can 45° blade kick them or even just stomp on their foot. In most cases this will be a normal posture for the unskilled fighter.

Warning: Never go to the ground if there are multiple opponents.

Note: Follow this technique with an arm-bar, mount above the hips, or simply walk away. If you choose the mount, follow immediately with open hand strikes, closed hand strikes, and elbow strikes. In sport you may choose to apply a choke or lock the opponent to gain a submission.
