[T9.00] Sukui-nage: (Leg Throw)

[T9.00] Sukui-nage: (Leg Throw)

Translation: (sukui) scooping, (nage) throw (Chinto Kata)

This is a root throw. If you can control one of the adversary’s legs and place all his/her balance on the other leg, they can be thrown in any direction.

Warning: Do not attempt these techniques without a qualified AOKK instructor’s supervision.

AOKK Category:
  • Dumping Throws
Opening Technique:

This throw is developed by the duck-under technique. There are many variations of this throw. Simply get to the side of your opponent and pull one leg off the ground and by driving your hip forward uke will go down. Sometimes you may only get the opponent’s pant leg, but the principle of this throw still works. Also, it can be a counter to the bear-hug. A proactive fighter can use a slip or a duck-under to position yourself for this throw.

Execution:
  • This throw can be approached for two different directions.
  • To facilitate the throw step behind uke.
  • Grasp one leg and scoop and throw him/her backwards.
Grips:
  1. Grip the lapel with the left hand and under hook the leg with the right.

Note: If the opponent hangs on to your body, be sure you land on top of them. Your body impacting the attacker along with their impacting the ground is an added value to the throw.

Warning: Never go to the ground if there are multiple opponents.

Note: Follow this technique with an arm-bar, mount above the hips, or simply walk away. If you choose the mount, follow immediately with open hand strikes, closed hand strikes, and elbow strikes. In sport you may choose to apply a choke or lock the opponent to gain a submission.
