[T12.01] Uchi-mata: Throw Variation-1 (Throw with Face Plant)

[T12.01] Uchi-mata: Throw Variation-1 (Throw with Face Plant)

Translation: (uchi-mata) inner thigh throw

Headlocks are not effective techniques, but occasionally you find yourself in that position. If you’ve placed someone in a headlock, you must use it as throw because the headlock does not an ending technique. This is not a preferred AOKK technique because your back is exposed.

Warning: Do not attempt these techniques without a qualified AOKK instructor’s supervision.

AOKK Category:
  • Hip Throw
Opening Technique:

If an attacker tries to take you down from behind, place them in a side headlock.  There will be times when you’re grappling and all you do is get your arm around uke’s head. This throw is the next stage of that engagement.

Execution:
  • Place uke in a headlock or guillotine choke.
  • Reap your leg backwards and up between uke’s legs.
  • Lift uke with your leg and throw him/her over your hip.
  • Drive uke face forward.

Note: In a life preservation situation drive the attacker’s head into the ground.

Note: This technique places you in a vulnerable position. Uke’s arms are free, so he/she can strike you in the face. This means you cannot hold this technique for very long. Your response must be immediate.

Note: This throw can also be made via Hari-goshi or Hane-goshi.

Execution:

Place uke in a forward head lock. With your free hand tie-off to uke’s uniform. Pull uke forwards and drive your leg up and throw him/her with a modified uchi-mata. Drop your shoulders as if you were making a forward roll. Even if uke drops his/he weight to stop the throw you can drive their face into the tatami (mat). If the throw is successful, try to land on top the adversary. If the throw is not successful, guide the attacker’s head to the ground.

Warning: Release the headlock, if used, and grasp uke’s collar before attempting the throw during practice.

Grips:
  1. Forward head lock.

Warning: Never go to the ground if there are multiple opponents.

Note: This throw means the fight will be continued on the ground, so follow it immediately with open hand strikes, closed hand strikes, and elbow strikes. Try to get to the adversary’s back and choke him/her unconscious.
