[T10.07] Ashi-guruma: (Foot Wheel)

[T10.07] Ashi-guruma: (Foot Wheel)

Translation: (Ashi) foot, (Guruma) wheel

This is one of the minor throws that will not work well with a skilled practitioner, but it will suffice with an unskilled opponent. The beauty of this technique is that you remain standing after the throw is executed. Remember to control uke’s wrist if you decide to continue the altercation. This is not a preferred AOKK technique.

Warning: Do not attempt these techniques without a qualified AOKK instructor’s supervision.

AOKK Category:
  • Sweep
Opening Technique:

Entrance into this throw comes when uke has moved into range two and tried to clinch or grab you.

Execution:
  • Grasp uke’s wrist and shoulder or neck then pull him/her until they place most of their weight on the leg you’re going to use as a fulcrum.

Note: Most of this throw is made with your upper body.

  • Turn and place the sole of your right foot on uke’s knee.
  • As you’re turning pull down on uke’s (RH) and push on his/her left shoulder.

Note: If you’re in a crowded room try and throw the opponent into a fixed object to increase the damage from the impact.

Warning: Never go to the ground if there are multiple opponents.

Note: Follow this technique with an arm-bar, mount above the hips, or simply walk away. If you choose the mount, follow immediately with open hand strikes, closed hand strikes, and elbow strikes. In sport you may choose to apply a choke or lock the opponent to gain a submission.
