[T11.00] Daburu-ashi-hari: (Double Foot Sweep)
[T11.00] Daburu-ashi-hari: (Double Foot Sweep)
Translation: (Daburu) double, (Ashi) Leg/Foot, (harai) sweep
I’ve never been a big fan of the foot sweeping techniques, but what works for me may be different than what works for another person. There are students that love foot sweeps and as a part of a total learning experience the AOKK student must be introduced to the concept.
Warning: Do not attempt these techniques without a qualified AOKK instructor’s supervision.
Judo Category:
- Ashi Waza (Foot Leg Technique)
AOKK Category:
- Sweep
Opening Technique:
This can be setup by pushing uke backwards and pulling him/her forwards. When both feet are parallel, sweep the ankle hard so that one foot impacts the other as you pull in the opposite direction of the sweep. It is important that you pull down on the opponent’s sleeve While lifting and push backwards with your other hand.
Execution:
- Step on uke’s lead foot pinning it to the floor.
- Grasp uke’s wrist and lapel.
- Pull uke forwards until both feet are parallel.
- Yank Uke forwards and to the side by his/her wrist or sleeve (LH), push backwards with your (RH).
- Sweep uke’s ankles together knocking their feet out from under them.
Note: This will not work with a skilled jujitsu range-two fighter, but it will work with an unskilled fighter that finds themselves in range-two.
Note: When you drive one ankle into the other, it must be done fast and hard. Yank uke out of his/her socks. Too weak and uke will step over your sweep.
Warning: Never go to the ground if there are multiple opponents.
Note: Follow this technique with an arm-bar, mount above the hips, or simply walk away. If you choose the mount, follow immediately with open hand strikes, closed hand strikes, and elbow strikes. In sport you may choose to apply a choke or lock the opponent to gain a submission.
