[T13.00] Daki-age: (High Lift Throw)
[T13.00] Daki-age: (High Lift Throw)
Translation: (Daki) Hugging, (Age) raise
This is a throw that is located in two areas of jujitsu. In throws it is used when you’re in the guard as a means to hurt your opponent and cross their hip line. It may take two or three of these throws to sufficiently get uke to open up, so that you can cross the hip line.
This can also be used if the opponent jumps the guard or in other words jumps on you and wraps their arms and legs around you in an effort to pull you to the tatami and place you in the guard. If this happens, drop uke on his/her head. You can also use this technique if the opponent is attempting a standing armbar. Tie-off to the armbar while lifting with your legs and drop them down to the tatami.
Warning: Do not attempt these techniques without a qualified AOKK instructor’s supervision.
Judo Category:
- Yoko-sutemi-waza (Side Sacrifice Throw)
AOKK Category:
- Dumping Throw
Warning: Dropping the opponent on his/her head can render them unconscious.
Opening Technique:
When uke has placed you in the guard, with their legs around your waist, strike them with a punch or palm heel. If they’re pull you close strike them with a head-butt. Next grasp their obi (belt) or lapels and lift them upwards with your legs.
This can also be used if the opponent jumps the guard or in other words jumps on you and wraps their arms and legs around you in an effort to pull you to the tatami and place you in the guard. If this happens drop uke on his/her head as they’re slammed to the mat. If this occurs on the street, slam the attacker’s head into a stationary object.
Note: For a more devastating throw, move backwards and try to get uke’s legs are over your shoulders. This throw works even if you cannot get their legs over your shoulders, yet it is effective if their legs are around your waist too.
Lastly it can be used against an armbar. I you get one arm over extended and the opponent places you in an arm bar tie-off to your wrist to stop the submission. You can use that arm bar to execute Daki-age. It may take several iterations to loosen the adversary’s hold. Just keep slamming them to the ground or to the tatami (mat).
Execution:
- Strike the opponent.
Note: Many times, the opponent will grasp your upper body. A head-butt is good method to loosen their grip.
- Grasp uke’s lapels or obi (belt) and lift them off the tatami with your legs.
- Pull uke towards your chest until and lift.
- Slam them back down on the tatami in an effort to knock the wind out of the opponent.
- Continue to lift and drop the opponent, on their back, until you get a release from the guarding position.
Note: Once the opponent is on their back, either leave or continue the fight from a standing position. If you wish to continue the fight, begin driving the toe of your shoe into the attacker’s legs and hip joints. Do not kick them in the head because if they’re killed, you will be charged with murder. The object is to minimize the attacker’s mobility. If the attacker regains a standing position continue to attack his/her lead leg until they cannot push off. This limits their ability to throw or take you down.
Note: In a life preservation situation drop the attacker on their head when executing the throw.
Warning: Never go to the ground if there are multiple opponents.
Note: If you choose the mount, follow immediately with open hand strikes, closed hand strikes, and elbow strikes. In sport or supervised practice, you may choose to apply a choke or lock the opponent to gain a submission.
