SC10.0 Tiger’s Mouth Choke

SC10.0 Tiger’s Mouth Choke:

This is a strike and a choke combination. The blow must drive the attacker backwards.

Warning: This technique should only be practiced with a qualified AOKK instructor present.

Execution:
  • Cup your hand and the initial strike is with the webbing of the thumb and forefinger.
  • After striking the throat close the fingers and thumb around the throat.
  • The drawing below shows the karateka blocking the attacker’s punch, but in reality, you want to grab and control the attacker’s arm in this situation. His other arm will move to pull the choke away.

Note: The drawing is done this way to reference the picture in the Bubishi.

  • While the attacker is focused on removing the choke, hook one of his legs and throw him/her to the ground.

Note: This technique comes from the Bubishi p. 173

Note: After the choke is applied grasp one of their limbs and push and pull the opponent backwards. When their balance is broken reap their supporting leg. Try to drop them on the back of their head.

Counter:
  • First clear your airway by dropping you chin. Determine which weapons are free. If the opponent’s arm is straight, grasp the opponent’s wrist, and palm strike the bottom of his/her elbow joint. If his/arm is bent, eye-gouge, double ear slap, punch to solar-plexus, knee to the groin, rake the shins, thumb strikes under the armpits, and kick to the groin. Do not let the attacker break your balance backwards.
