SC5.0 Rear Forearm Choke:

SC5.0 Rear Forearm Choke:

Warning: This technique should only be practiced with a qualified AOKK instructor present.

Execution:
  • Slide the thumb along Uke’s chin until the write is in front of Uke’s throat.
  • Place the edge of the wrist against the opponent’s throat.
  • In the pictured example the choke is tied off to the sleeve, but more pressure can be applied when the hands are clasp together and the wrist of the choking arm is turned toward the throat while the other hand is used to pull the wrist backwards against the throat.
  • The hand of the wrist that is being used to make the choke is turned away from the body, so the point of the wrist can be driven into the windpipe.
  • Uke’s natural response to this choke is to move backwards, so to increase pressure, on the choke, press forward with your forehead against the back of the opponent’s head. This keeps him/her from moving backwards.

Note: The turning of the wrist to add pressure to the choke. You can also increase pressure by using your head.

Note: You can kick your feet out backwards and drop your body weight pulling the opponent down to the ground. Maintain the choke and keep the opponent’s head pushed forward with your head or chest. You can also use a straight leg body-drop and trip to take the opponent down also.

Counter:  First clear your airway place your hands between your throat and his/her forearm. Determine which weapons are free. Do not let the attacker break your balance backwards, so bend forwards and pull on their forearm. Try to grasp a finger and bend it backwards. Dislocate it if possible. As a last resort, bend forwards pulling on their forearm and throw the attacker over your shoulder. The problem is that if they roll to the side and maintain the choke, they’ll have the advantage on the ground because they’re on your back and can greatly increase the force applied to this choke.

Rear Forearm Choke Drop:

This choke can be followed with a drop.

  • Place the attacker in a rear forearm choke.
  • Kick your feet backwards and drop face down on the mat.
