SC6.0 Rear Forearm Choke Counter with Tai-otoshi:
Defense against a rear forearm choke is not difficult, but you cannot allow the attacker to pull you backwards and off balance. Any number of throws can be used as counter this is simply an example to get the student thinking about their response.
Warning: This technique should only be practiced with a qualified AOKK instructor present
Execution:
- Drop your weight and press your chin into his/her forearm.
Note: If you can get your hand between the attacker’s forearm and your throat you’ll be in a better position. This gives you grip and keeps your airway clear.
- Drive and elbow into your attacker’s ribs to create distance.
Note: Driving the back of your head into his/her brow-line is an effective deterrent, and cab give you time to set-up your counterattack.
- Get a grasp of the attacker’s forearm once there is a gap between his/her choking arm and your throat break his/her balance forwards.
- Execute Tai-otoshi and throw the attacker to the ground in front of where you’re standing.
Note: The student must have an understanding of Tai-otoshi and must have practiced the throw hundreds of iterations. Find a qualified jujitsu instructor, and learn the nuances of this throw, before practicing this technique.
