[ML1.12] Arm-bar Variation-2 [From the Guarding Position]
[ML1.12] Arm-bar Variation-2 [From the Guarding Position]
This may not be the most practical arm bar, but it teaches, leg hooking, body separation, and hip shift shifting.
Warning: This technique should only be practiced with a qualified AOKK instructor present
Execution:
- Place uke in the guarding position.
- Grasp uke’s right wrist with your right hand.
- Hook uke’s left leg with your right leg.
- Push uke’s right arm across your body and shift your hips until your right hip is down on the tatami.
- Place ukes trapped arm in a figure-four lock and roll your shoulder into the joint.
Note: Uke will post with his other hand to prevent your rolling to the top mount.
- Continue to shift your hips and apply pressure on the joint until uke is forced to use his/her other arm to relieve pressure on the lock.
- Release the lock if uke taps, or you’ve achieved the top mount above the hip line.
Note: This technique is to teach the student hip shifting and leg hooking coupled with a lock.
Note: This technique should be taught without resistance until the student understands the mechanism. After the student understands the technique it should be practiced with resistance starting with uke in tori’s guarding position.
