[ML1.2] Standard Arm-bar Varitation-1: (Arm-bar with Triangle Choke)
[ML1.2] Standard Arm-bar Varitation-1: (Arm-bar with Triangle Choke)
It is a common practice to lift the shoulder, opposite of the arm trapped in the armbar, and roll towards Tori to escape the lock. If this happens pull one or both legs free and place them over uke’s head to prevent his/her shoulder lift. You can also step over uke’s head with one leg as you make the throw to prevent this escape.
Note: This technique is also found in the choke and strangle section.
Execution:
Practice with Tori above hipline position or mount.
- Start with uke, on his/her back, on the tatami.
- Tori will be mounted above the hipline.
- Press the knee into the side of the attacker’s jaw and grasp the attacker’s arm at the wrist to create the most leverage.
- Spin out of the mount to the side.
- As you’re spinning pull the attacker’s arm between your legs to get your buttocks as close to the attacker’s head as possible to create the greatest amount of leverage.
- Push your legs over the attacker’s neck and chest.
Note: The attacker’s elbow must be pointing downward towards your abdomen.
- Arch backwards and raise the hips to hyperextend the elbow while pushing down with the legs. It is all about the speed and technique. Pop the technique to get the greatest hyperextension.
Note: The hyperextension of the elbow is the focus of this technique, but the choke can also be very effective.
Note: The attacker’s arm can be moved to the side of the body, so the joint can be pushed even further. Different opponents have different levels of pain and flexibility.
Note: This technique should be drilled daily a hundred times until it flows without thought.
