ML2.4 Figure Four Birdwing Variation-1: (from the side mount position)
ML2.4 Figure Four Birdwing Var-1: (from the side mount position)
This is an option to apply the birdwing or figure-four lock from the side-mount. It is remarkably similar to M2.3 with only a slight difference. The difference is the hand placement. This lock can be applied from any position on the tatami. The only way to develop this technique is to practice it without resistance until the mechanics are in place, and then it must be tried in randori or with resistance.
Warning: This technique should only be practiced with a qualified AOKK instructor present.
Note: Grasp the wrist with the opposite side hand. (Facing the Opponent)
Execution:
You move to the side mount.
- Grasp the opponent’s wrist. (Opposite side)
- Reach under the opponent’s arm and tie-off to your wrist in a figure-four.
- Lean backwards onto the opponent’s chest.
- Pull the trapped wrist backwards.
- Use your forearm as a fulcrum and rotate the opponent’s wrist towards their head.
- Release the lock when uke taps, or help arrives to subdue your attacker
Note: Some people are more flexible than others. You may need to pull up with your forearm while pushing downward with the other hand and crank hard on the opponent’s arm.
