Cntr-2.0: [Counter to a Hip Throw-Hip Check Counter]
Cntr-2.0: [Counter to a Hip Throw-Hip Check Counter]
This is the simplest and most effective method of shutting down a hip throw. This is illegal in judo, but it is a viable counter to a hip throw and is totally acceptable in jujitsu. You must create distance to prevent the throw.
Execution:
- (Uke) Tries to throw tori with a hip throw.
- (Tori) As the uke turns to drive his/her hips backwards to break tori’s balance place a hand on their hip to maintain separation.
Note: Watch-out because the opponent will change the throw once the previous throw fails.
Follow-up Technique:
- (Tori) Tani-otoshi (Valley Drop) Grasp the opponent’s belt or obi and drop down and pull uke backwards. Practice getting back to your feet after making this throw to be in a superior fighting position.
