Cntr-5.0: [Basic Arm-bar Tie-off Counter]

Cntr-5.0: [Basic Arm-bar Tie-off Counter]

The arm-bar is one of the most common locks on the tatami. It is an excellent submission technique. The tie-off is the most basic counter to his move.

Note: If you cannot get your shoulders and hips rotated, the opponent can simply continue to lean back until you become tired and release the tie-off.

Execution:
  • (Uke) tries to place tori in an arm-bar
  • (Tori) Arm-bar Tie-Off. Grasp your wrist and try to turn your shoulders.
  • (Tori) Try to shift your hips and drive your elbow to the mat.
  • (Tori) Pull your arm free.
Follow-up Technique:
  • (Tori) Reverse position and pull free.
  • (Tori) Begin striking the opponent.

Note: If you cannot rotate your shoulders you cannot escape. You must rotate the shoulders until you’re facing the adversary. The opponent will drape his/her legs over your chest and neck to prevent you from rotating your shoulders. Keep rocking and hang on until you can turn your shoulders and pull your arm free.
