Counter-12.0: Throw Counter [Belt Grab Counter]
Counter-12.0: Throw Counter [Belt Grasp Counter]
Counter to any throw that lifts you off your feet. This is illegal in judo competition, but it may save your life on the street. Hip throws are not the suggested throw because you turn your back to the attacker. The AOKK teaches hip throws, so it is necessary to know how to counter that throw.
Execution:
- (Uke) Tries to throw tori with a hip throw.
- (Tori) When you feel you’re leaving the ground grasp the opponent’s obi (belt).
Follow-up Technique:
- (Tori) Drop and execute Tani-otoshi.
- (Tori) Roll with the throw while maintaining control of the obi (belt) and counter throw the opponent.
