[Cntr 16.0] Lapel Grasp Counter (Tiger Mouth Choke and Obi-otoshi)

[Cntr 16.0] Lapel Grasp Counter  (Tiger Mouth Choke and Obi-otoshi)

Grabbing your lapels is how you can control the opponent’s movement. This same grasp can be translated into a throw or a choke.

Note: This is bunkai for one of the moves in Sanchin kata.

Execution:
  • (Uke) Places you in a standing lapel grab.
  • (Tori) Tuck your chin to keep the airway open.
  • (Tori) Bring one arm over the top of the opponent’s arm and strike the opponent’s throat.
  • (Tori) Apply the Tiger’s mouth choke and push the opponent’s head backwards.
  • (Tori) Grasp the opponent’s obi with the other hand and pull the obi forwards.

Note: The push pull motion should knock the attacker off his/her feet.

  • (Tori) Pull the attacker of their feet and throw the opponent with obi-otoshi (belt-drop).
