[Cntr-5.1] Basic Arm-bar Counter (Figure-four)
The arm-bar is one of the most common locks on the tatami. It is an excellent submission technique. The tie-off is the most basic counter to his move. This is a popular version of the tie-off that utilizes the figure-four for more strength.
Note: These counters are not the only way to counter an arm-bar. They’re intended to give the student a tool to utilize, so they understand there is options. These scenario’s may or may not be their favorite option. The purpose of these exercises is to get the student thinking about how to resist an opponent’s attack.
Execution:
- (Uke) Tries to place tori in an arm-bar Figure-four the arm that is trapped with your free arm.
- (Tori) The trapped arm ties off the free arm.
- (Tori) The free arm grasps the opponent’s thigh.
- (Tori) Turn your shoulders towards the attacker and try to stand up.
Note: If you cannot rotate your shoulders you cannot escape. You must rotate the shoulders until you’re facing the adversary. The opponent will drape his/her legs over your chest and neck to prevent you from rotating your shoulders. Keep rocking and hang on until you can turn your shoulders.
