[Cntr-5.2] Basic Arm-bar Figure-four Tie-off Counter Var-2 (Elbow Push)
The arm-bar is one of the most common locks on the tatami. The tie-off is the simplest response to stop the arm from being placed in the lock. This is but one way to counter the tie-off.
Warning: When uke releases his/her grip, it can happen quickly, so be prepared to control the technique to prevent injury to the opponent.
Execution:
- (Uke) Figure-four the arm that is trapped with your free arm.
- (Uke) The trapped arm ties off the free arm.
- (Uke) The free arm grasps the opponent’s thigh.
- (Uke) Turn into the attacker and try to stand up.
- (Tori) Free one hand and push on uke’s elbow
- (Tori) Pull backwards while pushing on uke’s arm.
- (Tori) You may need to rock back and forth
Note: If you cannot rotate your shoulders you cannot escape. You must rotate the shoulders until you’re facing the adversary. The opponent will drape his/her legs over your chest and neck to prevent you from rotating your shoulders. Keep rocking and hang on until you can turn your shoulders and pull your arm free.
