[5.5.4] Section-5 Kaishaku: Counter to a Front Kick

[Source:] Isshin-ryu Black-belt
[Rating:] Basic
Information:

Many schools will stop the bunkai at the point of the throw, but we take it a bit further to show potential self-defense beyond the perimeter of the kata.

Part-1 Attacker: Front Kicks

Part-2 Defender: Trap Kick

  • Step outside the kick and trap the leg with your rear hand.
  • Wrap your arm around the attacker’s leg destabilizing the opponent. (LH)

Note: The arm under-hooks the leg.

Theory: Stepping to side avoid the kick. Even if you do not trap the kick, you’re not struck by it either.

Part-3 Defender: Throws and Applies a Heel Hook and Knee Lock.

  • Lift the attacker’s leg and twist his/her ankle until he/she falls face forwards.

Note: Maintain control of the leg.

  • Follow them to the ground.
  • Place them in a Heel Hook and pin them to the ground.

Part-4 Defender: Hold until Attacker until help Arrives.

  • Apply pressure on the lock until the attacker stops resisting.
