[2.1.0] Kusanku Sai Bunkai (Defense Against an Up and Down Vertical Strike)

[Heaven and Earth Block]

Part-1 Attacker:

Attacker:
  • Strikes low and then high or vice-versa.

Note: We tend to believe this type of strike is done only by the Bo, but it can also be performed easily with the tuifa/tonfa. The truth is any weapon can be delivered low and high vertically.

Part-2 Defender:

Defender:
  • Turns to remove all centerline targets
  • Block high and low simultaneously

Note: You can use either the high or the low portion of the techniques as a strike. Example if the attack is a low strike that can be blocked with your lower hand, then drive your upper hand into the attacker’s chin, face, or throat.

Note: This is a purely defensive technique when used to block a high vertical strike and a low vertical strike, so it must be followed with a counterattack.

Note: The preferred target of any weapon is the opponent’s hands. Break his/her fingers and they cannot continue the fight.
