[T15.12] Sweeping Osoto-gari (Throw)

[T15.09] Sweeping Osoto-gari (Throw)

This is a throw from a striking perspective. Not all throws must come from a grappling posture. Striking and throwing cannot be segregated. Striking is key in all three ranges. This throw combines slipping, blocking, and throwing.

Warning: Do not attempt these techniques without a qualified AOKK instructor’s supervision.

Opening Technique:

Step outside the punch and block the punch.

Execution:
  • Twin forearms block the opponent’s punch while stepping to the side of uke.

Note: Hit uke with your forearms to upset his/her balance. Absorb the blow with your arms. Stepping outside the punch is a form of body evasion.

  • Ridge hand strike across uke’s chest or throat.
  • Grasp uke’s shoulder and turn them breaking his/her balance.
  • Step around and sweep backwards with your leg.
Grips:
  1. None

Warning: Never go to the ground if there are multiple opponents.
