Note: This block is one of the major blocks of Tokomini. The vertical push-block protects the entire body from head to toe. Although this block looks very static, it is most versatile.
Vertical Push Block (Side-to-Side):
The Vertical Push Block can be used to block both low side strikes to the legs as well as blocking high strike to the head. The top or bottom of the weapon can be moved from side to side stopping any angular type of attack to the head or legs.
Vertical Push Block (Forward-and-Backwards):
The Vertical Push Block can be used to block both low circular strikes to the legs as well as blocking high strike to the head. The top or bottom of the weapon can be moved forwards or backwards stopping any horizontal type of attack to the head or legs.
Vertical Push Block (Hip Rotation with Bo Rotation):
The Vertical Push Block can be used to hide behind. You not only can move the weapon you can also move your hips to hide your centerline target areas. Turning your body sideways while blocking, removes these targets.
Information: Some schools will demonstrate the weapon’s Vertical Push Blocks versatile movement in the opening of the kata. We do this in the AOKK.
