[5.1.1] Tokomini Bunkai Section-5 (Vertical Push Block)

Note: This block is one of the major blocks of Tokomini. It is not the only block, but it is a viable one. The vertical push-block protects the entire body from head to toe.      

Note: Remember the Bo protects you. You can hide behind the weapon by keeping it close to your body.

Adversary:
  • Swings low 45° angle strike with the front of their Bo.
Defender:
  • Defender executes a Vertical Push Block pushing out with the bottom of the weapon to block the strike.
Adversary:
  • Swings high 45° angle strike with the front of their Bo.
Defender:
  • Defender executes a Vertical Push Block pushing out with the top of the weapon to block the strike.
Adversary:
  • Swings middle horizontal strike with the rear of their Bo
Defender:
  • Defender executes a Vertical Push Block and turns hips blocking with the middle third of the Bo.

Warning: Watch that you do not let the adversary’s weapon strike your fingers.

Adversary:
  • Swings middle horizontal strike with the front of their Bo.
Defender:
  • Defender executes a Vertical Push Block and turns hips blocking with the middle third of the Bo.
Adversary:
  • Thrusts with the tip of their weapon.
Defender:
  • Defender executes a Vertical Push Block and turns hips blocking with the middle third of the Bo pushing the thrust outside of your body.

Note: If you want to end the bunkai with an attack, strike down vertically with the top of the weapon on top of the Adversary’s head.
