[2.7.0] Section-2 Kaishaku: Counter to a Circular Punches

Information: This is a common method to defend against circular punches. Most untrained opponents will strike in this manner thinking that it is more powerful. Truthfully the circular motion of the punches gives the defender more time to block or deflect the blows with his/her forearms and shoulders. After, deflecting the blows you strike wait a linear punch. The liear motion is faster than circular punches.

Part-1 Attacker: Attacker Throws two circular punches
  • Attacker throws a (RH) circular punch.
  • Attacker throws a (LH) circular punch.

Note: These are not hook punches. They are arm punches or with is referred to as Haymakers. A hook punch requires hip and shoulder rotation plus weight transfer to generate power. These punches are made with the arms only and are commonly deployed by untrained fighters.

Part-2 Defender:
  • Block the first circular punch.
  • Block the second circular punch.
  • Vertical snap punch to attacker’s solar plexus (RH).

Note: this is a short snap to the attacker’s solar plexus while your guard remains in place protection your ribs and face.
