[5.1.1] Seiunchin Section-5 Kaishaku: Counter to a Reverse Punch

Part-1 Attacker: Punches (or reaches for you)
Part-2 Defender: Intercepts Punch and Shuto Strikes
  • Intercept the attacker’s punch or block with your rear-hand (RH) and use his/her forward momentum while stepping backwards into Seiuchin-dachi to reduce the power of the blow and increase your distance.
  • Shuto strike the Clavicle, ribs, throat, or spear-finger strike under the adversary’s armpit. These are all lead hand strikes, and the target depends upon which direction the attacker’s arm is raised or lowered. (LH)
Part-3 Defender Palm-heel and Hammer-fist Strike
  • Palm-heel strike to the right side of the attacker’s jaw. (LH)
  • Maintain control, by grasping the attacker’s lapel (LH) [Left hand]
  • Hammer-fist the attacker’s temple or brachial plexus. (RH)
Part-4 [Series Alternative] Attacker Pulls Backwards after Punch
  • Slip the punch and react as the attacker pulls away.
  • Grab the attacker’s hair. (LH)
  • Pull their head backwards to expose the jaw (LH) [Mandible]. The strike must compress the Inferior alveolar nerve that runs through the mandible. (RH)
  • Uppercut to the lower jaw striking the nerves. (RH) [Knockout Punch]
  • Shuffle step forwards.
  • Deliver an elbow strike. (RH)
