[Source:] Shorin-ryu Black-belt]
[Rating:] Moderate

Part-1 Attacker: Punches (to solar plexus)

  • Reverse punch or Power hand Punch off back leg. (RH)

Note: The target area is the solar plexus.

Part-2 Defender: Parry Block and Trap
  • Right-hand parry blocks the attacker’s punch to the side of your body to enable the trap of the arm under your armpit. (LH)
Part-3 Defender Traps and Locks the Attacker’s Punching Arm.
  • Wrap your forearm around the attacker’s arm, in what looks like a middle block. (LH)

Note: This is an elbow lock.

Rule: Not all Middle Blocks are blocks.

Part-4 Defender Punches
  • Snap punch the attacker’s solar plexus before he/she can pull away. (RH)

Note: In some versions of Seisan kata the non-blocking arm is not chambered like it is in the Isshin-ryu version of the kata.

Rule: Not all punches in kata are strikes.

Comment: This is a unique interpretation of the series of technique. Locks are part of karate.

Rule: Locks are used to control your opponent.
