[9.2.0] Section-9 Kaishaku: Counter to a Grab

[Source:] Isshin-ryu Black-belt
[Rating:] Difficult/Moderate

Note: This is only a portion of the series of bunkai. This is the turn into the cat stance.

Part-1 Attacker: Grabs Your Last Vertical Snap Punch.
Part-2 Defender: Elbow-Lock, Reverse Elbow Strike, and Throw

Information: This is simply the turn into the cant-stance portion of the bunkai.

  • Grasp the attacker’s wrist and turn 90° into a cat stance.
  • Pull the attacker’s arm under your armpit and apply an elbow lock.
  • Roll the attacker’s arm until the elbow points upward.

Note: Grasp the attacker’s wrist with both hands and pull the arm upwards. The adversary’s elbow must point upwards under your armpit. Dropping your body weight on the arm while pulling upwards on /her wrist applies pressure to the elbow and shoulder.

  • Turn clockwise into at Cat stance [Niko Dachi] and strike them with your hip.
  • If the attacker tries to break away, strike them with a Reverse Elbow.
  • Drop your weight on the attacker’s trapped elbow and shoulder.

Note: Kick your feet out and drop to your buttocks to apply maximum pressure.

Warning: With the elbow locked under the arm it can be dislocated or hyper extended by dropping your weight upon the elbow or simply by kicking your legs outward and dropping to your seat.
