[4.3.0] Seiunchin Section-4 Kaishaku: Counter Lapel Grab

[Source:] Jujitsu Black-belt (Tuite)
[Rating:] Difficult

Comment: This bunkai may have too many moving parts to a solid self-defense.

Part-1 Attacker: Grabs Lapel
Part-2 Defender: Finger-lock
  • Trap the attacker’s hand by placing your hand over theirs. (LH) Peel their fingers off your lapel. (RH)
  • Place the attacker in a finger-lock and set back into a cat-stance. Pull the lock downward to your hip.

Note: Insure you push the little finger of the attacker’s hand behind their other fingers.

Part-3 Attacker: Leans Forward
Part-4 Defender Elbow Strike and Front Leg Snap Kick
  • Elbow strike to the attacker’s head. (Hidden Technique)
  • Snap kick to the attacker’s groin. (Hidden Technique)

Note: It is not uncommon the deliver a snap kick form a cat stance as long as you maintain two points of contact for stability.

Part-5 Attacker: Pulls Back

Theory: The adversary’s natural reaction is to pull backwards.

Part-6 Defender Pushes Finger –lock Forwards and Back-knuckle Strikes
  • As the adversary pulls backwards, push the finger-lock forwards.
  • Release the finger-lock and grasp the attacker’s wrist. Snap a back-knuckle strike to the attacker’s temple. (RH)

Note: If the attacker withdraws their hand quickly, continue without releasing the trapped wrist and drive your knuckles into their temple.

  • Roll the attacker’s arm overturning the point of the elbow upwards.
  • Step into Seiuchin stance and apply elbow pressure by placing your forearm and elbow on top of their elbow.

Note: Dropping your weight increases the pressure on the elbow joint. This is one purpose for the Horse-stance.

Part-7 Attacker Leans Forward (to relieve elbow pressure or pulls away)
  • Strike with a back-knuckle to the attacker’s solar plexus, temple, or gallbladder 20, triceps muscle or whatever is open. You must take the target that presents itself.
