[5.7.0] Naihanchin Section-5 Bunkai: Counter to a Foot Sweep

[5.7.0] Naihanchin Section-5 Kaishaku: (Counter to a Foot Sweep)

[Source:] Isshin-ryu Black-belt
[Rating:] Basic
Part-1 Attacker: Grabs Shoulder from Behind and Sweeps Your Foot

Note: Low block and Spear-finger portion of series only.

Part-2 Defender Traps Attacker
  • Wrap your arm around theirs in a circular motion trapping the arm and tie off to their clothing. Drive you fist downward. This appears to be a low block in the kata, but it is a lock. Worst case scenario is the attacker has time to release their grip before their fingers are trapped in the fabric of your clothing.
Part-3 Defender Spear-Finger Strike
  • Strike the back or side of the attacker’s knee as a distraction. (Sweep)

Note: This is a distraction intent on getting the adversary to lean forwards.

Part-4 Defender Spear-Finger Strike
  • When the attacker bends down and forward, you need to drive a palm-up spear-finger strike to the eyes or throat.

Note: The palm is always up when striking the neck.

Note: You may throw the attacker if desired.

[End Series]
