AOKK Non-Traditional Isshin-ryu: Ridge-Hand Block

AOKK Non-Traditional Isshin-ryu: Ridge-Hand Block

This block is not found in traditional Isshin ryu, but it is a viable block. The great part about this block is that one hand can be used to stop multiple punches. The Ridge-hand block moves in a circular motion covering all centerline targets.  It starts at the groin and sweeps through all vital areas. The shoulders are turned slightly to place the centerline targets on an angle. While they’re on an angle it is more difficult to make straight on contact to these points.  This movement is followed by a sweep of the forearm to redirect the blow. The strike is made with the side of the forearm or wrist bone.
