Isshin-Ryu Back Knuckle Strike:
The back knuckle is the karateka’s version of the boxer’s jab. It is mainly made with the arm and is a speed type technique. It can be used to set-up fa second technique. Use it like a boxer’s jab.
This strike is delivered using the knuckles of the inverted fist. It is delivered in an arching motion. The angle can be 45˚ from the ear and down to 90˚ over the head and down. It can also be used as a spinning technique.
Stance:
- Seisan Dachi.
- Side Stance:
Note: Seisan-dachi is a forward walking stance and is both a fighting position and a transitional position. The side stance can be also be used to deliver this strike, but the side stance limits the karateka’s weapons after the blow is delivered.
Execution:
- Lead hand snaps goes forward.
- Lean forward to extend your reach.
- Push forward while you’re on your toes.
- After the punch is extended it is quickly pulled back to cover for a counterattack.
Striking Part of the Hand:
- The striking part of the fist, is the back of the knuckles.
Target Area:
- Bridge of the Nose
Note: Make the adversary’s nose bleed. Give him/her something to think about.
