Isshin-Ryu Spinning Back Knuckle:

Isshin-Ryu Spinning Back Knuckle:

The spinning back-knuckle is a method used to clear your circle of combat. If you’re being pressed quickly spin. There will be one of two outcomes. The opponent will back out or they will get hit with the forearm or fist.

This strike is delivered using the knuckles of the inverted fist. It is delivered in a spinning motion. The circular motion is where the power is developed in this technique. When you spin, do not stop the technique halfway. Remember to swing through the target. Always continue the attack with a straight right or cross. Yo must charge the adversary, so the cannot escape. The back knuckle only opens them up momentarily, so you must counterattack quickly.

Stance:

  • Seisan Dachi.
  • Side Stance

Note: Seisan-dachi is a forward walking stance and is both a fighting position and a transitional position. The side stance can be also be used to deliver this strike, but the side stance limits the karateka’s weapons after the blow is delivered.

Warning: Turning your back to the opponent can be a bad decision.

Execution:

  • Turn the rear should away from the opponent and torque your shoulders and hips.
  • Pivot on the lead leg and push off with the rear leg
  • Lead hand snaps forward as your two thirds through the spin.
  • Spin 360° through the target.

Note: A savvy opponent will step backwards out of your range of combat, so you will need to lunge forwards and drive a punch into the retreating opponent.

  • Step forwards and deliver a reverse punch.

Striking Part of the Hand:

  • The striking part of the fist, is the back of the knuckles.
  • The forearm is also a striking portion of the blow.

Target Area:

  • Temple
  • Chin
