AOKK Kumite Body Evasion: Upper-Body Chart-1 Technique
Body Evasion upper body Chart-1 Technique:
Body evasion techniques are used to stay inside the opponent’s circle of combat. These techniques are not true blocks, but a means of minimizing the sting of an opponent’s attack, so your counterattack can be delivered in close. Body evasion cannot take the place of good footwork or a block and must work in concert with good footwork.
In Isshin-ryu, chart number one upper-body technique fourteen, we are introduced to body evasion. All systems of karate have some form of body evasion training, but it is not emphasized. In the Isshin-ryu training the student is trained to step on an angle. This stepping on an angle is also found in a few karate kata. This is basic body evasion theory. One of the AOKK rules memorized by our students is “The best way to not get hit is to not be there.” Angular movement is only one of many types of body evasion. In the AOKK we try to teach many differing types of body evasion.
