AOKK Back Leg Turn Kick with Instep
AOKK Back Leg Turn Kick
This kick is delivered like the Back Leg Round kick, but the striking area is with the shin and instep. It begins in a forward stance. The knee moves forwards in the same manner as the front and side kick. Many systems bring the leg out on a ninety-degree angle, but by raising the leg perpendicular makes reading the technique easy. For this reason the delivery for all three back leg kicks must be the same. At the end of this technique the hips are sharply rotated, and the leg is thrown in an arc. This kick is best situated for kicking soft tissue areas. The chin is also a good target for this kick, but the higher the kick the longer it takes to develop and make at trap and throw easier.
The downside is that a properly placed elbow into the instep can shut down the whole leg. If the leg is not pulled back fast enough it can be trapped and used to take the kicker to the ground. It is also a slow developing kick.
