AOKK Advanced Kicking Technique: Jumping Front Kick
Jumping Front-kick eliminates the loss of power and speed when kicking above the waist by raising the kicker’s hip line. This kick is executed from a forward stance (Seisan Dachi). Drop slightly and spring straight up into the air. Execute a lead or rear leg snap kick while off the ground. The rear leg generates more power while the lead leg has the advantage of speed.
One problem with this kick is the fact that while the karateka is in the air he/she is vulnerable. Remember, what goes up must come down, and the first reaction to this kick for the defender is to retreat out of the way, but the crafty veteran fighter will wait until the kicker is landing to initiate his/her blitz attack. Landing is critical too because outside the dojo surfaces are uneven, and a mishap means you’re in the third range of fighting or on your back. This kick is very effective when fighting an overly aggressive opponent because they will run into the kick causing the technique to be even more powerful.
