[16.1.1] Urashi-no-Kun Bunkai Series-16: (Strip and Thrust)

[16.1.1] Urashi-no-Kun Bunkai Series-16: (Strip and Thrust)

(Kata Series 13) (Step-43,44)

This is one of the most basic bunkai to a specific attack. In this case, the attack is made high. Normally the attack is made to the opponent’s hands or wrists.

Attacker:
  • Thrust the Bo tip forward.
Defender:
  • Step sideways.

Note: This removes the centerline targets.

  • Circular Block/Strike the Bo sideways and rotate your weapon to deflect the attack away and downward.
  • Thrust your Bo over the attacker’s weapon.
  • Strip the opponent’s lead hand from the weapon.

Note: This is called a bump attack. Your attack comes immediately after contact occurs with the opponent’s weapon.

Note: The thumb is the weakest point of the grip, so attack the thumb as you create a lever.

Note: to set up the Strip you need a distraction. Drive the point of the Bo into the opponent’s sternum, solar plexus, or head. This will loosen up the opponent’s grip on their weapon.
