[8.1.1] Urashi-no-Kun Bunkai Series-8: (Vertical Strikes)

(Kata Series 4) (Step-10,11,12)

Note: The Vertical Push Block can be used to clear the opponent by pushing the attacker out of the circle-of-combat. It can also be used to push the opponent’s blow away.

Attacker:
  • Horizontal strike with the front of the Bo.
Defender:
  • Step into a left foot forward stance.
  • Vertical Push Blockto the left.
  • Diagonal strike with the front of the Bo. (Head Strike)

Note: You never only block. You always block and strike.

Attacker:
  • Diagontal Block the strike to the head with the rear of the Bo.
  • Horizontal strikes with the rear of the Bo to the defender’s right side.
Defender:
  • Pull into a cat stance and vertical block.

Note: Pulling back into a cat stance creates distance.

  • Low underhand strike to the groin.
Attacker:
  • Vertical diagonal block the strike to the groin.
Defender:
  • Diagonal strike to the attacker’s head.

Note: Strike Low to set-up a strike high.
