(Kata Series 4) (Step-12,13,14)

Note: A block can be made with a simple tap of the front of the Bo. Students believe that a more solid strike males a better block, but sometimes it only takes a slight pressure to deflect the strike.

Attacker:
  • Thrust the Bo tip forward.
Defender:
  • Strike the opponent’s Bo upwards with the tip of the Bo.

Note: This deflects the weapon’s trajectory.

  • Horizontal strike left and right.
Attacker:
  • Vertical push block left and right.
  • Strikes down vertically.
Defender:
  • Pull the Bo back to your ear and block the downward strike, while vertically striking with the bottom of the Bo.

Note: A block can be made with either the front or the back of the Bo. In this case the weapon is pulled back to the ear and the block is made with the rear of the weapon. This teaches that this weapon has two striking areas.

  • Vertical strike downward with the front of the weapon.

Note: You always strike low to set-up a strike high.

Attacker:

  • Moves backwards

Defender:

  • Horizontal strike left and right.

Attacker:

  • Vertical push block left and right.

Defender:

  • Thrust the Bo forwards striking with the end of the weapon.
  • Push the end of the Bo between the opponent’s wrist and weapon.
  • Pull your hand back to remove the attacker’s lead hand.
