Forward Shoulder Roll FL1.4 (Zempo Kaiten Ukemi)
After the student has mastered falling forward, to the side, and to the back, he/she should learn the (Zempo kaiten) forward roll.
Teach the forwards roll first. Understanding this gymnastic technique will help develop the shoulder roll.
The student will begin by placing his/her feet together in the shape of an L. Then move the feet shoulder width apart. The forward foot dictates which side oi the body impacts the mat. Take the forward foot’s corresponding hand and place it inside the forward foot with the fingers pointing towards the body. Holding the head down against the forward side, the student pushes of the rear leg and begins the roll.
